For the fourth time in just under five weeks there has been a fatal crash on the Princes Hwy.In 2008, a coronial inquest was conducted into 19 deaths along a 430km stretch of the highway from Yallah to the Victorian border.Deputy State Coroner Carl Milovanovich described the road as "unforgiving", saying the consequences of simple driver errors in such an environment could be catastrophic. But he stopped short of blaming the road for the deaths or making any recommendations for funding along the entire stretch of road.He recommended educating drivers in the need to drive to road conditions.Over the summer holiday season police urged us to slow down when the road is wet, take precautions at night, do not exceed the speed limit and don't drive drunk. While police are yet to determine the cause of yesterday's crash, it is pertinent to remind all drivers their behaviour behind the wheel affects others. It's nothing short of selfish to drive drunk, or at excessive speeds. It is not just about where you need to be, it's about the life you could take in an instant.No-one ever thinks it will happen to them, but just the slightest unforseen mishap or error can lead to devastating consequences.
