This particular Bennett is a coach but he isn't Wayne Bennett. It's David Bennett, coach of the Coastal Carolina University football team, the Chanticleers (which is apparently a fancy name for a Rooster).
This extremely odd comment from a press conference has something to do with getting his players to toughen up by telling a story about a cat that got stuck in his house.
Weird.
With the finals on, lets go back to 1978 to visit one of the biggest controversies in rugby league.
In that finals series controversial referee Greg Hartley (who had been languishing in reserve grade a a few months earlier) refereed a match between Manly and Parramatta. The match is infamous for Manly scoring on the seventh tackle after Hartley had miscounted the number of tackles.
Also, Manly were given seven tackles on two other occasions in that game while Parramatta were three times given just five tackles. That means Hartley miscounted tackles six times in one game.
Not surprisingly, the Eels pushed to have the game replayed - but to no avail.
This footage is from the excellent documentary The Fibros and the Silvertails. It’s an essential DVD for any footy fan.
