Bulldogs vs RabbitohsSouths won last week, had a few other results go their way and yet they still find themselves hanging onto eighth place by their fingernails. The Dogs, on the other hand, well, their season is all over. So I reckon they’ll be keen to ruin the hopes of as many top eight contenders as they can. And first in line are the Bunnies.
The winner: Bulldogs
Panthers vs Cowboys
North Queensland racked up a rare win against the Knights last weekend, which was good for them. Not so good was that they needed extra time to put away a Newcastle side that not even their own coach would back in FootyTAB. Matty Elliott has been at the Panthers over their recent fadeout and, at home, I reckon they’ll get back in the win column. But, if they can’t beat the Cowboys, their season is effectively over.
The winner: Panthers
Eels vs Roosters
When these two tackle-shy teams play each other, you can pretty much bet on a cricket score. In fact there’s every chance that, if you add up the points each team scores here, it’ll probably be higher than the total number of tackles made in the game. But the Roosters are a bit more experienced at leaking points like a sieve and then catching up at the last minute.
The winner: Roosters
Wests Tigers vs Sharks
The charm of a new coach couldn’t help the Sharkies over the line and, this weekend, they’re up against a team keen to make amends for playing the Sea Eagles into some form last week. With their season totally over, the Sharks would like to take on the role of a nuisance side, denting the top eight hopes of other teams. But lets face it, the Sharks’ season was over months ago, if they haven’t decided to do that by now, they’re not going to. Tiges to win.
The winner: Tigers
Warriors vs Titans
The Warriors, embarassed by their loss to the Bunnies last weekend and looking to solidify a top eight berth, will come out ready to play. The Titans, however, will be extremely flat (and maybe a little sore) after their high of beating the competition leaders in golden point. Therefore the Warriors will thump them.
The winner: Warriors
Storm vs Raiders
I almost went with the Raiders on this one - because it’s in chilly Melbourne and if anyone is good in the cold it’s the Raiders. But even though this season matters not a jot for the Storm, it’s still really hard to go past them.
The winner: Storm
Broncos vs Dragons
Some might think Wayne Bennett is a jinx in this game. See, the supercoach has only been on the winning side twice in Dragons-Broncos clashes at Suncorp. Me, I gave up believing in jinxes a few years ago, so that little stat won’t have a damn thing to do with this game. Anyway, the Dragons aren’t playing as badly as some think - we’re not letting the opposition score 34 points on us last week like some other team I could mention. Like the Broncos - with that sort of porous defence, the Broncs will be in trouble.
The winner: Dragons
Knights vs Sea Eagles
The easiest game to pick this round. Manly are in some form. The Knights are not. Even if Manly revert to going to sleep at the back end of this game, the Knights just aren’t good enough to take advantage of that.
The winner: Sea Eagles
Season so far: 82/149
