Try Hard tips for 2010

Everyone else seems to be releasing their ladder predictions for the 2010 season, so I figured I'd have a crack at it.

The difference between mine and everyone else's is that I freely admit I pay hardly any attention to any team that isn't the Dragons. So my perception of the other 15 teams in the comp is enormously limited.

Sometimes the selections are based on hatred of certain teams, which is why I reckon the Storm will have a crap season. And love of others - which is why I've tipped the Dragons to win the premiership.

Then there's the strange selections - like the Panthers in fourth spot. All the tipsters do that - pick some unlikely outcome so, if it comes true, they can remind everyone how smart they were by picking it at the start of the year.

But some of what comes below is just plain logical. I mean, does anyone really doubt the Sharkies have a lock on the wooden spoon?

1. Bulldogs: Yeah, they'll be minor premiers. But that's the last trophy they'll get this season.

2. Dragons: From second spot they win the grand final. But you already worked that one out, didn't you?

3. Titans: Quiet consistency and a fair bit of Greg Bird mongrel gets the Gold Coast into the top four.

4. Panthers: The Penriff Panfers surprise the hell out of everyone - including themselves - and end up in the top four.

5. Rabbitohs: Finishing just outside the top four is all down to Sam Burgess who will smash nine kinds of crap out of anyone who comes near him. And if they stay away from him, then Dave Taylor smashes them. But if one of them is injured, they'll fail way down the ladder.

6. Storm: Their dynasty-like run has to end sometime, and I reckon this is the year. A stack of injuries will do them for the year and they'll miss the grand final. And good bloody riddance too.

7. Broncos: Everything pretty much rises and falls on Darren Lockyer. He's a great player but he's not young enough to carry them all the way this year.

8. Eels: Team spirit and all that Hayne Hype pushed them into the grand final last year, but that stuff won't work again this year. Hence, they're out in the first round of the finals.

9. Tigers: The black and golds will continue their quest to be the most consistent team in rugby league by finishing just outside the top eight. Again.

10. Sea Eagles: Matt Orford's gone. And so are they.

11. Knights: Their knightmare of an off-season carries over in the the season itself.

12. Cowboys: Given that the North Queensland side is made up of one player - Mr J Thurston - a 12th place finish is actually pretty good. And it's not as if Willie Mason will make a lick of difference to things.

13. Raiders: Much to my Canberra father-in-law's disappointment, his Green Machine will continue to stall away from home.

14. Roosters: New players in Jason Ryles and Todd Carney and a new coach in Brian Smith hardly make much difference at all.

15. Warriors: It'll be a long 2010 season for the most inconsistent team in the comp. But fans should at least be happy that the Sharks are worse.

16. Sharks: They've bought no-one and Trent Barrett is a year older. And Ricky Stuart's still in charge.
