2 die in Princes Hwy crash

16 Jan, 2010 07:04 PM
Two people are dead after another collision on the Princes Hwy between Ulladulla and Batemans Bay.

A motorcycle and car collided near Tomboye Rd at East Lynne, close to last month's fiery and fatal collision between a fuel tanker and three cars.

Two people, believed to be the motorcyclist and pillion passenger, died at the scene.

The occupants of the car, believed to be two adults and a child, sustained minor injuries and have been taken to Batemans Bay Hospital.

In last month's crash, truck driver David Carolan and sisters Makeely and Jordon Bridge, who were travelling in one of the cars, died at the scene. The girls' father David, who suffered shocking burns, died a week later in hospital. Their mother Debbie is still in hospital with burns to 80 per cent of her body.

As a result of the latest accident, police are appealing for motorists to delay travel on the Princes Hwy or take alternative routes. A number of diversions are in place.

Northbound traffic is being diverted on Lookout Road, while southbound traffic is being diverted on Old Nelligan Road.

The diversions are unsuitable for heavy vehicles and cars towing caravans.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are under way and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Anyone with information about the collision, or who witnessed the accident, is asked to contact Nowra Police, Batemans Bay Police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

hmm. considering the amount of accidents, i'd say something needs to be done, and fast. Whether accidents on the road are being reported more so because of thie horrific tanker situation or not, the road needs to be fixed or there needs to be a higher police presence. Sounds pretty alarming to me.

When the hell is something going to be done. As a Former resident of the far south coast, now living in wollongong, i travel this road regularly, and am amazed at the number of crosses and flowers where people have died. At the end of the day, while you wont stop all accidents, governments need to start taking measures to stop head ons, as they seem to be the most deadly. What is more frustrating, is how much money is wasted in government, while people die needlessly. Absolutely disgraceful.
