Big night out that put Ty's career in free fall

09 Apr, 2010 10:06 PM
Disgrace Hawks basketballer Tywain McKee rang in the New Year with a night on the town, unaware of the turmoil ahead when even jail would loom as a possibility.

Driving home in the early hours of January 1 - just a short time after he was sidelined by injury in a game against Adelaide - he was stopped by police who described him as so intoxicated he needed help to walk.

On March 23, the day he was due to fly home to visit friends and family in the United States, he spent the morning in Wollongong lock-up waiting to face court for driving while disqualified and providing police with false information.

See Saturday's Mercury for the full report.

Problem is Footballers are considered to be role models and we expect of them some high standards. Unrealistic requirement? Possibly, but maybe other people should be held more accountable for their actions? As it is now, moral standards deteriorate rapidly!
