Body of missing fisherman found on Far South Coast

07 Feb, 2012 08:16 PM
The two-day search for a rock fisherman missing off the Far South Coast has ended with the discovery of a body tonight.

The body is believed to belong to a 57-year-old Canberra man last seen fishing off rocks about 300m west of Haycock Point, Eden, on Monday.

The man was not wearing a life jacket.

Surf Life Saving duty officer Andrew Edmunds said a member of the public contacted police at 8pm yesterday after spotting a body about 100 metres off headland at the northern end of Merimbula Bay.

Eden Water Police retrieved the deceased from the water, Mr Edmunds said.
