Cariba Heine has been cast as former Camden teenager Caroline Byrne in a telemovie tracing the model's life and 1995 murder, in which she was thrown to her death off Sydney suicide spot The Gap.
Heine, who plays a mermaid on hit children's television show H2O, will star alongside Garry McDonald as Caroline's committed father, Tony Byrne, who spent 13 years fighting for justice in his daughter's death.
Sea Patrol and Blue Heelers actor David Lyons will play the role of Gordon Wood, Caroline's boyfriend who was convicted last year for her murder.
Caroline's former boyfriend from Camden, Andrew Blanchette, will be played by Underbelly star Gyton Grantley.
Filming of the telemovie, A Model Daughter - the Killing of Caroline Byrne, will begin in Sydney this week.
The telemovie is based on the book, The Killing of Caroline Byrne, by Sydney Morning Herald journalist Robert Wainwright.
Wainwright's book traces Caroline's life growing up in rural Camden, her move to Sydney, the discovery of her body at the base of The Gap in 1995 and her father's 13-year quest for justice.
The book uses original polices notes from the case and interviews with Wood, which were conducted by Insp Brian Wyver, now a duty officer with Wollongong police.
The character of Insp Wyver will not feature in the telemovie, according to a Network Ten spokeswoman.
Caroline and Andrew were childhood sweethearts growing up in rural Camden, but the relationship ended when Caroline moved to Sydney to pursue her modelling career.
Andrew followed his father, Barry Blanchette, into the NSW Police.
