Cyclist critical after hitting car

A cyclist was last night in a critical condition in Wollongong Hospital after colliding with a car at a busy intersection.The accident occurred at the intersection of Masters and Springhill roads yesterday about 2.10pm.Wollongong police duty officer Inspector Nicholas Skomarow said the 55-year-old Cringila man, who was riding a motorised pushbike, was turning right out of Masters Rd and attempting to cross six lanes of traffic when he was struck by the car.The man was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he remained last night.A 37-year-old Towradgi man whose bike collided with a car on the Northern Distributor on Wednesday is still in a serious but stable condition in St George Hospital.Police said a 59-year-old man was driving a white Holden Commodore south on the distributor about 2am on Wednesday when the cyclist, who was riding north in the breakdown lane, rode out in front of the car.The bike was destroyed by the impact, and the cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, hit the car's windscreen. The man suffered multiple fractures and possible head injuries.
