A man accused of attempting to kill a toddler by inflicting serious head injuries has appeared in Wollongong Local Court. The Unanderra man showed little emotion as he appeared before the court for a brief bail hearing yesterday, charged with one count each of attempted murder and wounding a person with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm. The charges relate to an alleged attack on the man's young daughter sometime between 2pm and 2.30pm on Thursday.Legal Aid solicitor Michael Bladwell appeared on behalf of the man."There is no bail application," Mr Bladwell said."I note this is a strictly indictable offence; perhaps your honour can just make brief orders."Magistrate Michael Stoddart ordered that the brief of evidence be served by January 6, a week before the man is due in court. The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested at his Unanderra home after reports a toddler at the address had suffered a head and brain injury.NSW Ambulance paramedics allegedly found the toddler unconscious and not breathing when they arrived at the address. They treated the girl for apparent head injuries before she was taken to Wollongong Hospital and later airlifted to the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick where she remained in a critical condition yesterday.
