Darius Boyd named fullback of the year

07 Sep, 2010 11:05 PM
St George Illawarra’s Darius Boyd has been named the Dally M fullback of the year at the awards night in Sydney.

Boyd was the only Dragon to be honoured despite the team being the minor premiers.

Sydney Roosters five-eighth Todd Carney took out the Dally M Player of the Year award, pipping Boyd and Robbie Farah.

Brian Smith was coach of the year and Brisbane utility Matt Gillett was named Rookie of the Year after a stunning debut season in the NRL.

In other awards the Roosters’ Braith Anasta was named captain of the year, Billy Slater took out representative player and Carney won the Provan-Summons Medal for most popular player as voted by fans.

Other winners were David Shillington (Canberra) front-rower, Sam Thaiday (Brisbane) second-rower, Robbie Farah (Tigers) hooker, Akuila Uate (Newcastle) winger, Luke Lewis (Penrith) lock, Scott Prince (Titans) halfback and Jamie Lyon (Manly) centre and Carney five-eighth.

Lawrence from the tigers, or kenny- dowel from the roosters should be centre of the year, not lyons. what a joke these awards are. These sorts of results give our game NO credibility at all.

The selection of Boyd is very much deserved and has heaps of creditibility. I believe a team that has finished in front at the end of two consecutive regular seasons deserved to have more higher placed nominees.
