Controversial ALP candidate David Boyle will stand aside as the federal ALP candidate for Gilmore.A media alert issued at 10am today said Mr Boyle will make the announcement in Shellharbour Village at 1pm.Mr Boyle, a newly-minted ALP member, was parachuted into the candidacy by the ALP National Executive in late April. The party machine rushed through his application for membership so quickly, his membership card had not arrived in the mail by the time he was preselected. The move created huge discontent among rank and file party members in the seat who had expected Neil Reilly, the party’s candidate for Gilmore in the 2007 election, to be preselected.Members’ outrage culminated in a protest demonstration outside State Parliament earlier this month.Senior Labor sources, increasingly worried about Mr Boyle's lack of electoral traction, believe red-hot preselection favourite Mr Reilly can put the party's campaign back on track.FOR FULL COVERAGE SEE SATURDAY’S MERCURY
