David Boyle to quit race for Gilmore

18 Jun, 2010 10:30 AM
Controversial ALP candidate David Boyle will stand aside as the federal ALP candidate for Gilmore.

A media alert issued at 10am today said Mr Boyle will make the announcement in Shellharbour Village at 1pm.

Mr Boyle, a newly-minted ALP member, was parachuted into the candidacy by the ALP National Executive in late April.

The party machine rushed through his application for membership so quickly, his membership card had not arrived in the mail by the time he was preselected.

The move created huge discontent among rank and file party members in the seat who had expected Neil Reilly, the party’s candidate for Gilmore in the 2007 election, to be preselected.

Members’ outrage culminated in a protest demonstration outside State Parliament earlier this month.

Senior Labor sources, increasingly worried about Mr Boyle's lack of electoral traction, believe red-hot preselection favourite Mr Reilly can put the party's campaign back on track.

I think it is shame that the guy did not get a fair go instead of the "gravy train for loyalty" that usually happens. We need people with a bit of go and some real experience of business etc.

Just as well he wasn't elected, just what a Labor Party politician should be, hollow opportunist with no pump!

Sounds like maybe the penny has finally dropped for Sussesx Street and the long overdue realisation is dawning on them that State Labor is going to lose the next election.

The penny has dropped all right. We have had a gut full of bullying . Sussex Street would do well to become very low key because it attracts the wrong sort of attention.

So does this mean that the complete goose Neil Reilly makes a comeback? He who cried and whinged like a baby when Boyle was announced as the candidate! Good luck Reilly - hope you can run your campaign on a shoe-string budget mate cause you'll get no funds from Head Office. Head Office doesn't like you and in addition all available funds need to go to seats that Labor can actually win or need to hold onto. As for the local Labor party members on the South Coast - Head Office has a long memory so look out. Looks like we'll be having another 3 years of Jo.

They parachuted him in ignoring the wishes of the local branch, and have now bullied him out. Pathetic typical Labor Party tactics from start to finish.

Maybe he was at the mid winter ball the other night , heard Rudds speach, and thought I can,t be seen with this lunatic.
