 Demelza's day at work

Demelza's day at work

02 Aug, 2008 05:00 AM
Prada, Ksubi, Fendi - it's all in a day's work for Demelza Reveley.

The Keiraville teenager has traded her school uniform for thousands of dollars worth of high fashion threads in an opulent eight-page Vogue Australia spread that hits news-stands next week.

The shoot was part of the prize awarded to the winner of pay-TV reality series Australia's Next Top Model and shows Demelza modelling a series of high-end cocktail dresses in an old, abandoned Point Piper house.

"It was a little bit different to anything I've done before - it was all really elegant cocktail dresses and very stylised, but then they've changed it all with cowboy hats and feathers - an American Indian feel," the 16-year-old Illawarra Grammar School student said.

"I loved it, it was amazing. Once you're at a Vogue photo shoot you really can see why they're as good as they are.

"I was very privileged and very proud that I'd made it into something so big."

The shoot meant a 14-hour day for Demelza, but she took it all in her elegant stride.

She expects to be among the first to buy a copy of the magazine next week.

"I left Wollongong at about 5.45am and was very tired but I find that as soon as I get into a shoot and I'm in the garment I feel like I've slept for 20 years," Demelza said. "You're all energised and ready to go.

"I only saw the mock-ups of (the photos) so I'm going to be very surprised when I see the magazine.

"I'm sure my mum will drag me out of bed to get the first copy."

The magazine will be Demelza's only keepsake from the shoot, with none of the lucrative fashion souveniring said to be part of the modelling world.

"I think it's just a myth to be honest with you," Demelza said.

"I haven't been given anything to keep from a shoot, but maybe somewhere down the line, if you make friends with a designer I'm sure they'll give you stuff."

Demelza said she would focus on castings and getting as much work as possible "like every other model" until later this year when she hopes to travel to New York.

Until then she's basking in the glow of a job well done.

"My agency told me that they were very happy and I got lots of good feedback so I think I did a good job. No, I know I did a good job."
