Double murderer 'just did what I was told'

21/08/2008 5:48:00 PM
A woman labelled the mastermind of a brutal double murder on the NSW South Coast says she was scared of her accomplice and simply did what she was told.

Kim Leanne Snibson, 37, has pleaded guilty in the NSW Supreme Court to kidnapping and murdering Nowra horse stud owners Gregory Hosa, 56, and his wife Kathryn McKay, 44, in January 2006.

The couple's remains were found burning in two metal 44-gallon drums in Tomerong State Forest, south of Nowra.

Giving evidence at her own sentencing hearing, Snibson was today shown photographs from the post-mortem examinations.

``That's a photograph of the remains of Kathryn McKay,'' crown prosecutor Paul Leask said to Snibson.

``That's the only remains of Kathryn McKay - that's her right foot and ankle.''

An already upset Snibson reeled back from the photograph and was given time to compose herself by Justice Terence Buddin.

Two men have already been sentenced over the couple's murder.

Stacey Lea-Caton, 29, was sentenced in November last year to a minimum prison sentence of 16-and-a-half years and a maximum of 22 years.

Andrew Wayne Flentjar was sentenced in July to at least seven years jail for his role in kidnapping the couple.

The men said Snibson recruited them for the crime, telling Lea-Caton the married couple had videotaped her while engaged in sex acts while drunk.

Flentjar said Snibson told him the victims were ``rock spiders'', who sexually abused children.

Neither allegation was confirmed during court proceedings.

In her evidence, Snibson said Lea-Caton was behind the murders and denied manipulating the men.

She said Lea-Caton wrapped packing tape around Mrs McKay's head until she turned blue and died and he then strangled Mr Hosa with fencing wire while standing on his back, contradicting both men's testimony that she was the culprit.

``I put it to you that it is clear that you intended to kill these people,'' Mr Leask said to Snibson.

``You intended to kill them and you intended to eliminate any evidence of that crime that would in any way connect you to it.''

She objected, saying ``No'' to each proposition.

Snibson said she did not remember much of her conversations with either accomplice on the night of the murders.

``I wasn't asking questions. I just did what I was told,'' she said in court.

Justice Buddin asked Snibson if she was scared of Lea-Caton.

``I was afraid of anything that was going on,'' she answered.

During her evidence, Snibson admitted driving the car which carried the two drums containing the bodies to Tomerong State Forest.

Yesterday, Snibson denied lying when she told the judge she had an affair with Mr Hosa and had sex with him twice in his stables.

She also denied a claim by Mr Leask that she owed the couple money at the time of the murders.

Family of the murdered couple are expected to read a victim impact statement to the court tomorrow.
