Sydney's Deaf Club is so impressed with Symbio Wildlife Park it plans to feature the zoo on its website travel page as a must-see attraction for deaf people. Miss Deaf World 2011, Ilaria Galbusera of Italy, visited the zoo yesterday as part of her Australian visit to help judge Miss Deaf Australia 2012.Ms Galbusera has a reputation for touching the hearts of everyone she meets but at Symbio it was native Australian animals that captured her heart in what she described as "the experience of a lifetime".The commerce student from Milan said the encounter had made her feel happy, excited and emotional.Park owner John Radnidge and his daughter Michelle Aldred also admitted to feeling a little emotional watching Ms Galbusera's reaction."It is one of the highlights of my 11 years here," Mr Radnidge said."It was nice to be able to give her that experience and create great memories of Australia. And it is great to be able to help the Deaf Club raise awareness and we will do everything we can to assist them."Deaf Club president Lorraine D'arcy said raising awareness was important because sign language was not yet classed as an official language in Australia. She and colleague Stephen Lord were so impressed with Symbio they want to bring future Miss Deaf Worlds to the zoo."It is more family oriented," Mrs D'arcy said. "Everyone is so down to earth."The Miss Deaf World contest is also about helping people in the deaf community feel connected.
