Plenty of vampires were out and about in the Illawarra last night, but there's no need to panic.
The latest chapter in the Twilight saga hit cinemas at one minute past midnight and costumed fans packed into sold-out sessions were the first in the region to see the film.
Based on a series of books by United States author Stephenie Meyer, The Twilight Saga: New Moon is tipped to be a smash hit and tickets have been hot property since they went on sale weeks ago.

The 29-year-old, describing herself as a Twilight obsessive, tempted her workmates with pieces of cake coated in blood-red icing. "I've even read half of the fifth book, which was leaked onto the internet," she said.
Cinemas in Wollongong and Shellharbour also hosted a special screening of the first Twilight film for fans keen to brush up on their vampire history before the premiere.
A Greater Union Wollongong spokeswoman said hundreds of tickets were sold for today's sessions, with extra security brought in to cope with the influx of fang-wearing fans.
