Firefighters battle Cringila house blaze

07 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
A Cringila house was severely damaged by fire and water after firefighters tackled a blaze that tore through the home yesterday morning.

Fire crews were called to the single-storey brick and iron house in Merrett Ave at 3.50am, after receiving a number of triple-0 calls.

Wollongong Fire Command station manager Andrew Seston said the front of the house was well alight on arrival. He said the residents of the house were outside and all were accounted for.

Units from Warrawong, Unanderra, Wollongong and Dapto fought the blaze, which was out by 6.20am. Firefighters returned to the scene to put out a hot spot about 7am.

Mr Seston said there was no indication as to the cause of the fire at this stage.

Lake Illawarra police said there was nothing to suggest it was suspicious or deliberately lit.
