Illawarra schools in rock eisteddfod final

04 Aug, 2008 04:07 PM
Three of the region's schools have made it through to the grand final of the 2008 Sydney Rock Eisteddfod.

The student dancers from Smith's Hill, St Joseph's Catholic and Bomaderry High schools will now appear on stage at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on September 4 and 5.

Event manager Fiona Wilkie said it was an incredible achievement for all schools involved.

``The grand finals are a chance for NSW's best performers to battle it out for winner's trophy,'' Ms Wilkie said.

``Schools get to perform at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and hear their name screamed out by an audience of thousands.

``That's an incredible feeling.''

The region's students beat hundreds of other dancers from across the state during heats over the past week, to make it to the grand final.

Smith's Hill students made it into two categories: RAW, which has a no stage-set rule and focuses purely on the performance elements, and the premier division.

Last year, students from the Wollongong selective school won second place in the competition.

Bomaderry made it through to the open grand final division and St Joseph's will compete in the premier division.

Grand final tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster on 136 100.
