It's breakfast on the house, but who paid?

22 Nov, 2008 03:00 AM
When Darrell and Cleo Pitt arrived at their gourmet burger shop in Shellharbour yesterday morning they found an envelope under the door containing a mysterious letter and $210 cash.

"The letter in the envelope has been done up like an old treasure map with holes burnt in it and all this sort of stuff," said Mr Pitt, the owner of Bobby's Gourmet Burgers.

"Dear Bobby," the letter began.

"You have been selected as a special disciple of the Phantom Givers Inc.

"Your mission is to gift your loyal customers with free food and beverages to the value of $200. Enclosed is $210 cash.

"You, however, have a choice.

"One, on Friday 21st November, 2008, you will open your doors. The first $200 worth of sales will be given to your customers for free and you may keep the $10 as a profit. No reason need be given.

"Or two, you can keep the $210 and say nothing. Nothing further will be said and no-one will ever know. PGI."

Mr and Mrs Pitt have no idea who sent the letter or why, but they knew what they had to do. When they opened at 7am, they shouted their customers to breakfast.

"People were delighted and we had to explain to them what had happened and show them the letter, because they were insisting on giving us money, and we had to say, 'no, someone else has already paid'," Mr Pitt said.

"I think someone has done it because they like us and with the way the world economy is going, maybe people have thought it is a tough period for business people."

Is PGI Santa's pseudonym?

I am sure the burgers deserved it - and the breakfast customers got a bonus.

After all, it is the season of giving.

So that's the way to get your business some free advertising?

Very clever indeed.

A "mysterious letter" huh?

Just give them credit for a unique way of advertising.

Nice thought by PGI.

How refreshing, for a change, to read a story like this.

It has once again restored my faith in the human race and I hope it inspires others.

RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) has more power in the simplicity of the act than any other form of charity.

PS: If they are still feeling generous...my car is dying a slow, painful death and I would certainly be most grateful to find another car parked in my driveway...ha ha ha.

Seriously though, I applaud the PGI...well done!!!

Good luck! I've never had anything like this before but when I heard about the news of the phantom givers, I feel so proud of them. This makes me believes more in miracles and I do believe that these are God sent angles and I think that if you receive money and letters like this then you should use it exactly in what they want.
