Incumbent Gilmore MP Joanna Gash is set to win a sixth term in Parliament in tomorrow's federal election.A second Mercury/IRIS poll conducted just days out from the election shows Mrs Gash held a commanding 54 per cent of the primary vote, compared to 32 per cent for Mr Reilly.Analysis of the new figures reveals Mrs Gash's primary vote has fallen four percentage points and Mr Reilly's risen by one since the first poll on July 21.

  • EDITORIAL: Why Gillard should be re-electedHowever, the change is expected to make little difference at the ballot box tomorrow, with Mrs Gash maintaining a crushing lead over Mr Reilly.Greens candidate Ben van der Wijngaart's primary vote remains unchanged at 11 per cent, while Christian Democrat Bohdan Brumerskyj was the only other runner out of the seven candidates to get a mention during the poll, notching up 3 per cent of votes. On a two-party preferred basis, the Coalition was ahead of Labor 58 per cent to 42 per cent.If similar voting patterns are followed tomorrow, Mrs Gash will be comfortably returned to the House of Representatives and the seat of Gilmore welcomed into the cluster of safe Liberal seats.
