Police have for the first time raised the possibility that three recent Illawarra crimes - a murder, attempted murder and a missing person case may be linked.
Homicide detectives confirmed they are investigating links between the Sunday shooting of Darko Janceski at Berkeley, the murder of Saso Ristevski at Lake Heights in September and the disappearance of Goran Nikolovski who was last seen in Unanderra in October.
Janceski, 32, was shot in the groin outside his Barnes St home on Sunday and rushed to hospital.
He remains in Wollongong Hospital and two men have been charged with attempted murder.
Homicide detectives said Janceski was an associate of Ristevski, 37, who was shot dead in front of his parents at his Barina Ave home last September. No-one has been arrested in relation to the Ristevski case.
Missing man Nikolovski’s burnt-out car was found on a road off Macquarie Pass in October and police fear he has met with foul play.
The Mercury revealed in November that Nikolovski, 35, was an associate of Ristevski and both were charged with trafficking cocaine in January 2004.
Investigators confirmed that link for the first time today saying the Homicide Squad would merge the strike forces investigating the incidents into Strike Force Calligan.
Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the links between the three men to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Officers are particularly interested in speaking to a number of people who had previously anonymously contacted police.
