Major delays on Mt Ousley Rd after smash

03 Feb, 2012 07:05 AM
Motorists are being warned to avoid Mt Ousley Rd northbound after an accident involving a truck and at least three cars this morning.

The accident occurred about 7.30am, 1.5km south of the Bulli Pass turnoff.

A B-Double truck and at least three cars were involved, but no one is believed to have been seriously hurt.

Paramedics are assessed six people at the scene and five were taken to Wollongong Hospital for further treatment

All northbound lanes reopened about 8.30am but traffic remains heavy.

Motorists are advised to use Bulli Pass as an alternative route north to Sydney.

I travel on that road every day, those trucks are a true danger to all the motorists, I've seen way too many speeding, changing lanes with total disregard of basic safety rules. With an increasing number of commuters on that road, something must be done to ensure we are not risking our lives every day

This morning on the F6 with visibility down to about 2 car lengths I had people pass me at speeds above the speed limit and with no lights on.

What is up with people?

Adrian - they are probably the same clowns driving Wednesday morning in thick fog without lights.

Until recently I was a daily commuter to Sydney by road. Each morning I felt I was risking my life because driving at the speed limit of 80 made other drivers of cars and trucks flash lights, tailgate and blast horns. Oh and by the way I was driving in the left lane unless overtaking.

The section of road where this happened always has a large flow of water across the road in heavy rain which can easily cause aquaplaning.

Not sure if that contributed to this accident, the damage to the barrier certainly suggests it did cause a cars rear end to step out.

But regardless, it is about time the drainage on that curve is fixed because its a joke that a major highway can have such a large flow across a bend.

in bad conditions on that road it seems a lot of drivers are reluctant to slow down.

probably they drive it every day and 'know it like the back of their hand', an often heard boast at the pub, bbq or dinner party

i dont mind/care if they have accidents it's just that they are likely to take others with them and/or cause huge hold ups.

time to have weather related speed limits like on the f3.....and then police them!!!!!

I heard a car spun in the wet, the first person behind the spinning car avoided it, but due to the usual tailgating, the vehicles behind them couldn't stop in time.

Dear PKRES,

Im all for safe driving, however driving your car at 80km/h in a 100km/h zone is just as hazardous as someone driving 120km/h.
