A man was extradited from the Northern Territory yesterday, accused of being involved in a 14-year-old armed robbery at a Woonona bank.
The alleged robbery occurred on June 7, 1996, when two men armed with firearms entered a bank on the Princes Hwy, Woonona and confronted staff and customers.
The men allegedly stole cash and fled the premises.
The alleged robbery followed a similar robbery on March 21, 1996, at a bank in George St, Sydney.
A 53-year-old man was charged over the offences on August 4 that year and was later convicted and served a sentence for the offence.
In January this year, police received information about a 53-year-old man living in Alice Springs and he was arrested on Monday about 4pm.
He appeared in Alice Springs Local Court where NSW police sought, and were granted, his extradition.
The man arrived in Sydney at 4.45pm yesterday and was taken to Kogarah police station where he was charged with two counts of robbery in company and is due to appear in Kogarah Local Court today.
