Mid-strength and light beers will be the only kinds available after 4pm at Kembla Grange today as part of measures aimed at keeping punters in line on racing's biggest day.
And four marshals have been employed to monitor responsible drinking among the anticipated 8000-strong crowd.
The new measures were ordered by the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing to ensure punters complied with responsible service of alcohol stipulations once they left the bar, Kembla Grange licensee Lindsey Barnaba said.
"It's at all country, provincial and metropolitan tracks," she said.
"The bar staff can monitor the situation at the bar, but the marshals are more about mixing with the crowd to see if people are buying drinks for under-age or intoxicated people."
There are no restrictions on wine or champagne, however drinks will be served in plastic cups and can only be bought two at a time.
Mrs Barnaba said the restrictions were part of modern-day sporting events.
"It's not as if they can't get a drink. They can get anything they want up until 4pm, but two drinks per person."
The racecourse's usual complement of 38 security staff and six user-pay police officers will also be on hand today.
Among those particularly happy to be track side will be the face of Kembla Grange's Fashions on the Field and Ford Models Supermodel of the World 2009 hopeful Natalie Meeuwissen.
The Kiama High School student finished her last HSC exam yesterday after a hectic few weeks juggling study with fashion parades.
Fresh from parades at Erina and Orange, she expects to see a lot of colour at Kembla Grange.
"Bright colours are in, and if you're going 'out there' with your dress, wear more simple hair," she advised.
"From what I've seen pinstripes are in, and women are wearing fascinators, but not the big ones, just little, simple fascinators."
