A bushfire that closed the Hume Hwy at Menangle today is no longer out of control but the arterial remains closed to traffic. The blaze, which is about 100ha in size, began impacting the busy highway about 1.45pm.A NSW Rural Fire Service spokesman said the fire reached the edge of the highway but fire crews managed to stop it jumping the road.Seven fire trucks and about 30 firefighters remain at the scene and are controlling the fire, he said.No properties have been threatened, he added.Earlier, the RFS advised nearby residents to check and follow their Bush Fire Survival Plan and warned fires could be difficult to control in the windy conditions and embers could be blown ahead of the main fire. The RTA advises the highway is still closed in both directions with queues up to 5km.It also says smoke is affecting visibility in the area.
