Police have stepped up search efforts for the body of a missing swimmer, believing the warm ocean conditions will lead to his resurfacing today.
Patrick Koffa, a 19-year-old Liberian refugee, vanished while swimming with a group of friends off City Beach at 8.45pm on Sunday night.
Day three of the massive search effort, spearheaded by Police Rescue Squad officers, started this morning at 7am assisted by PolAir, Bendigo Aerial Patrol, Water Police, Port Kembla Coast Guard, Wollongong City lifeguard jet ski crew and Wollongong SES.

"We are making every attempt to cover all bases in areas where there's a possibility of the body surfacing and the possible extraction and recovery,'' Sgt Verzosa said.
"With the water component, we are searching from the shore, 5kms out into the open sea, and from Bellambi in the north, south to Hill 60 at Port Kembla.''
The land search has been extended from Windang Beach to Corrimal.
"The search conditions have been pretty good with good visibility. Our police divers have conducted an extensive search of the area,'' Sgt Verzosa said.
"But there has been nothing. I really feel for the family. His mother is at Lidcombe. She's waiting for our call.''
Mr Koffa's sister Veronica Chea has continued her beachside vigil, awaiting his recovery.
