Motorcylist killed after crash with kangaroo

13 Nov, 2009 10:00 AM
A man died after he was knocked off his motorcycle by a kangaroo on the Princes Hwy at South Nowra yesterday.

The 39-year-old man, from Bondi Junction, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle south along the Princes Highway in Nowra about 4.15pm yesterday when a kangaroo jumped onto the road.

The animal was hit by a car and bounced off into the man, knocking him from his motorcycle.

Police said the man fell off the bike and slid into the path of an oncoming Toyota Landcruiser.

The accident occurred about 500m north of the Btu Rd intersection.

The man suffered extensive injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Shoalhaven Hospital.

The road was closed while officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command examined the area.

The kangaroo was not found at the crash, police said.

RIP fellow rider. As a rider myself, I'm sad to hear of such tragic accident. Apparently he nothing to do with it, but was still killed. My thoughts are with this mans family and friends at this sad time.

Its time for a kangaroo cull, kangaroo's are no longer pretty little things when they start hurting people. Their numbers are only increasing, and they're being forced closer to the roads, theres almost an incident every day. Cull them or farm them - do something to keep their numbers under control.RIP poor bloke.

As a parent of a learner driver, my sons 2nd lesson required us/him to monitor 20+ roos in full flight parallel to the road on an outback highway. Within seconds they had jumped the fence and were coming towards us........we made an abrupt stop with only metres to spare.....
