Not one to follow the crowd, she read all she could about vaccinations, the ingredients, and the potential side effects.
Ten years later, with three healthy children, she has no regrets about her decision not to give them the jab. "I am pro-choice. I did my research and I think everyone should make an informed decision and not be judged for it," Ms Chrystal said yesterday.
"When I read what goes into those immunisations, I thought I'm not injecting these toxins into my children. And there is no guarantee that it would stop my children from getting infected by these diseases."
The Woonona mum said doctors had a vested interest in promoting immunisation.
"If they are getting paid to give immunisations, of course they are going to flog them."
Ms Chrystal, who works in IT, said she was initially reluctant to tell people about her decision for Riley, 10, Georgia, 8, and Lucas, 4, but her family and friends had been supportive.
