Noreen Hay dumped as parliamentary secretary

12 Sep, 2008 10:48 PM
Beleaguered Wollongong MP Noreen Hay has been dumped as a NSW parliamentary secretary by Premier Nathan Rees.

The move comes after the member for Wollongong was caught up in the scandal surrounding disgraced police minister Matt Brown's drunken romp at a post-budget party in June.

Mr Brown was sacked for lying to Mr Rees about dancing in his underpants in his office, where he was alleged to have straddled Ms Hay's chest and called out to her adult daughter: ``Look at this, I'm tittie-f...ing your mother!''.

While admitting to dancing in his briefs, Mr Brown and Ms Hay denied the second incident occurred.

However, Mr Rees today refused to give a specific reason why Ms Hay was dumped as the parliamentary secretary for health.

``I wanted a fresh face,'' he said in Sydney.

Asked why he did not make the move earlier in the week, he said: ``Things were moving too quickly''.

``Historically, parliamentary secretaries have come some time, the announcement has come some time, after cabinet itself.

``There is simply only so many things you can consider.''

The Premier yesterday said he would meet with Ms Hay after hearing reports she arrived in the parliamentary chamber for a division with a noticeable bump on her head following the party.

Earlier this year, Ms Hay was drawn into corruption allegations linked to Wollongong developers investigated by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

However, ICAC said she was not a person of interest.

It's about time this woman was let go. I'm amazed that she lasted so long, good for you Nathan! Now get someone decent to do the job.

It just goes to show there is more than one way to skin a cat! Maybe now the lynch mob can retire into their bunkers and give us all a bit of peace from their ruck-making antics.
