There's plenty of evidence in the community that people are unhappy with the way Labor deposed former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
But despite the fact some voters are not impressed with the way Julia Gillard was selected and not elected as PM, the results of an IRIS Research poll show she still has plenty of support in the Illawarra.
The poll, commissioned by the Mercury, reveals Ms Gillard has a 75 per cent approval rating among Labor voters and is popular among females and the 18-24 age group.
It indicates that Labor should comfortably hold the seats of Cunningham and Throsby but it will be interesting what it means for the popular Liberal Member for Gilmore Joanna Gash.
Mrs Gash is already in for the fight of her life in Gilmore which now encompasses the Labor strong-holds of Shellharbour, Barrack Heights and Albion Park.
But as we all know, election campaigns are a bit like MasterChef - every day is a pressure test.
So while the party faithful have confirmed what we already know, it would be unwise to declare Labor past the post in Gilmore or nationally for that matter. Politics is a funny game and things can change dramatically overnight.
