Premier Kristina Keneally comes to Kiama

12 Mar, 2010 01:44 PM
Kiama commuters will be the big winners under the State Government's new MyZone fare system, Premier Kristina Keneally said today.

In a whistlestop tour of the region, Ms Keneally visited the Kiama Post Office, the first Kiama business to sell public transport tickets under the new scheme.

"A commuter travelling from Kiama to Town Hall station by train will pay $56 for a weekly ticket under MyZone - that's a saving of $13 a week,'' she said.

Earlier in the day Ms Keneally visited the property of Gerringong farmer Joe Chittick to announce $59,000 to help local dairy farmers improve their waste management.

Meantime Ms Keneally said her loungeroom would be a sea of red when the Hawks take on the Wildcats in the NBL grand final decider tonight.

"Go the Hawks,'' she said.

"I'm a keen basketballer and I'm very excited about Wollongong's chances tonight.

"It's not just Wollongong and the Illawarra region, but all of NSW who are behind the Wollongong Hawks tonight."

Great I love it when tourists from America visit the region.

MyZone update for Kristina, A commuter travelling from Waterfall to Town Hall station by train will pay $10 more for a weekly ticket under MyZone - than for a commuter one station away at Heathcote, even though Waterfall is the end of the suburban line.... less than 5kms away... Yep all sounds fair to me! NOT!!

And are a lot of people are going to commute from Kiama to Town Hall every day for work? I somehow thought it was about being fair to commuters, not sneaky revenue raising. Ohhh, so hang on, tickets are cheaper because not many people will be willing to spend over 4 hours a day commuting to work as they do from say Thirroul. Those tickets went up to one dollar less than the maximum they allow. This system doesn't look quite right to me...

I would rather vote for Lara Bingle.

Bet she arrived by Helicopter, and not by train!

Like plenty of others, I prefer to drive to Waterfall and catch the train to the CBD from there.. now its going to cost extra, I wonder why I bother. Its a Big NO from me.

So our puppet premier is jumping on the band waggon now that the Hawks are in the grand final.. Where were the State Governmnt when the team were begging for help to stay in the competition.

If it is $13 savings from Kiama, wander why didn't they go to Nowra and proclaim bigger saving like $13.50?

Oh come on you lot, don't be so cynical! After all, she's only doing what she's told!
