Premier Kristina Keneally to visit flooded Illawarra

Premier Kristina Keneally will visit the region’s storm-damaged southern suburbs tonight.The Premier will be in Barrack Heights at 6pm, her seventh visit to the Illawarra in recent weeks.

  • Full flood coverageMs Keneally said the floods, which began on Monday, had had a ‘‘significant impact’’. The State Emergency Service had responded to hundreds of calls for help and 45 rescues had been carried out.‘‘We’re working with the local government areas in terms of the natural disaster declarations but this stage we’re still very much in the emergency response mode of these floods, responding to requests for assistance, ensuring that people are safe and the work of assessing damage is now beginning,’’ she said.Ms Keneally said there was ‘‘no assessment yet as of the cost’’ of damage to property and local infrastructure.‘‘We are continuing to see disruptions to the road and the rail network as a result of the flooding,’’ she said.
