Donations of furniture, $180,000 raised in a radio telethon and a Shamrocks' benefit night in Wales are among the region's latest support efforts for Victorian bushfire victims.Wave FM's Bigger Breakfast team finished its 50-hour, on-air marathon at 9am yesterday, although the donations continued to pour in long after the team went home to bed.Expecting to raise about $20,000 when the team of Jade Papesch, Dave Gorr and Greg Vincent started their appeal, the total reached $172,800 by the telethon's end, and escalated to $180,213 by late afternoon.Papesch said that with businesses across the region pledging their day's takings, hopes were high the final total would exceed $200,000.The team applauded residents for their outstanding generosity. The Hamilton family of Bulli were so moved by the plight of the bushfire victims they donated furniture to the appeal of i98 radio broadcasters Marty Haynes and Erica Hodge.Warren Hamilton said his father had recently moved into a nursing home, leaving a house full of furniture behind, including beds, lounge suites, dining suites and household goods."We just wanted to do whatever we could to help," he said.At least 10 truckloads of goods, collected during the appeal, will join a community-led convoy to Victoria on Monday.Three former Shamrocks rugby union players might be a long way from home in Wales, but that has not stopped them joining the fundraising effort. Simon Pritchard of Bulli, Tristram Storm of Bellambi and Craig White of Corrimal travelled to Wales last November to play union for club Aberavon Quins. Mr Pritchard and Mr Storm also work as bar staff at a Welsh restaurant and after hearing of the disaster, joined with their employer to stage a benefit night, which will be held tomorrow. "We can't believe what's happened," Mr Pritchard, 20, said.
