Rogue Traders singer pens book for girls

Singer, actor and TV presenter Natalie Bassingthwaighte has added author to her growing list of accomplishments.

The former Mt Warrigal girl and Neighbours star last night launched her first book Sistahood: A Journal of Self-Discovery at a function at Sydney's Luna Park, attended by hundreds of young girls.

Bassingthwaighte and her younger sister Nicky Moore have spent two years writing the book aimed at boosting girls' self-esteem.

The book features activities and is filled with pictures of Bassingthwaighte's life with her three sisters. The 32-year-old said she hoped the book encouraged girls to be nicer to each other.

"Being girls and looking at what's going on in the media at the moment, with a lot of girls representing us in not a great light, we just thought it was about time that we stood up for ourselves," Bassingthwaighte said.

Moore, her 26-year-old sister, a mother of two and political philosophy student, agreed.

"We want to get a really positive message out there and empower girls to be true to themselves and not try to live up to something they see on TV," Moore said.

Bassingthwaighte, the second oldest of four girls, described the book as: "Probably the best thing I have ever done."

The Rogue Traders lead singer and So You Think You Can Dance Australia host promised that she still had a lot more to offer.

"There's always something," she said. "It's probably not the end of this, it's just going to keep going.

"I just like being creative and I think this is just another outlet to be creative."

A portion of the book's proceeds will go to the Lifechanging Experiences Foundation, which runs the SISTER2Sister program.
