More than six months after Fairy Meadow residents complained to Wollongong City Council about the impact the Ambience development was having on their properties, none of the promised reports have been delivered.
Construction on the proposed retail and residential complex at the corner of the Princes Hwy and Elliotts Rd came to a halt more than a year ago and the company was placed into administration on January 5.
Residents went to the council in March with concerns that huge concrete walls constructed up to their boundary lines were causing fences to sink and robbing their properties of sunlight.
Fairy Meadow's Ambience back in limbo
No Ambience for Fairy Meadow residentsA month later, a report tabled at the council meeting said receiver KordaMentha had agreed to investigate issues including the "alleged undermining of the adjacent premises".
But the Belmorgan company behind the project, SPV 7 Pty Ltd, has since had a liquidator appointed to wind it up after the Office of State Revenue took action to recoup more than $115,000 it is owed.
None of the promised reports have been received by the council.
"We are still working with the liquidators and the private certifier to discuss remedies to address residents' concerns," a council spokesperson said.
Residents advocate Rod Plant said he was not aware of any explanation or possible solutions being provided to neighbouring residents six months after they revealed their difficult situation.
The fate of the development is also in limbo despite assurances in April that construction would resume in six to eight weeks and be completed by the end of the year.
The only activity on the site since then was when contractors were sent in last month to take down hoardings outside the complex. That action was taken because the lack of lighting had been flagged as a safety issue for pedestrians at night. The removal of the hoarding angered union official Mick Lane, however, with claims the site would become a "death trap".
Coles' position in the development remains under a cloud. In April, the council report said: "Coles have indicated that any recommitment will be subject to the completion of the building by the end of the year."
However, Coles declined to comment on whether it remained committed to the venture, despite construction still not restarting.
KordaMentha was unavailable to comment.
