Morgan Elderfield leaves court after a hearing into a charge stemming from a night out at the North Wollongong Hotel in November last year.

A drunken law student who allegedly lectured police on the law when told to leave a Wollongong hotel maintained her innocence in court yesterday."F... off, pig, I'm a lawyer. I got 94 in my UAI and I'm sorry you are so inferior and don't know the law," Morgan Elderfield allegedly told police in the lead-up to her arrest on November 13 last year.Elderfield, 22, of Osborne St, Wollongong, has pleaded not guilty in Wollongong Local Court to assaulting a police officer, Snr Const Brian Rice, and refusing to leave a licensed premises. The court earlier heard Elderfield had consumed "two or three" drinks before going to North Wollongong Hotel, where she continued drinking. When asked to leave the hotel, Elderfield allegedly refused and threw beer over a security guard.Police said they gave her numerous warnings to go home but she was finally arrested after she held up her finger and allegedly abused Snr Const Rice before stumbling stomach-first into a cab.During the arrest she allegedly scratched Const Rice on the neck, drawing blood.Elderfield admitted yesterday she was intoxicated but denied throwing alcohol on the security guard. She said she began walking out of the hotel willingly "but without any warning, the next thing he (the security guard) grabbed me and forced me forward and pushed me into a mulch garden," she said. She said at first she was restrained on the ground then dragged to the door with her feet barely touching the ground.Security tape played in court yesterday, however, showed her feet on the ground with her resisting any movement forward. She said when police arrived they didn't take her complaints about her treatment seriously. She said when she she got into the taxi, she felt somebody rip her hair from behind, drag her out of the taxi and arrest her before she was put into a paddywagon. She admitted to sticking her middle finger up at Snr Const Rice "because I was angry and frustrated".Prosecutor Sgt Shaun Thackray, under cross examination, suggested to Elderfield she was being removed from the hotel because she was clearly intoxicated. He also suggested Elderfield told police at one stage she was a lawyer, not a law student, but she denied that.Sgt Thackray: "You said 'I know the law, we don't have to go anywhere'."Elderfield: "No."Sgt Thackray: "Do you remember saying 'I got 94 in my UAI ... you are so inferior you don't know the law?'Elderfield: "I may have said that."Sgt Thackray: "Your memory of the night is not very good ... is that likely the result of intoxication?"Elderfield: "I guess so."The hearing will continue on December 21.
