Construction fences have been removed and traffic diversions lifted to reveal an impressive new pedestrian promenade and timber viewing platform over Belmore Basin.
The $1.1 million first stage of the Cliff Rd promenade extends from Brighton Lawn to Georges Place, above the Continental Pool.
Work on the $2.6 million second stage will begin after the summer school holidays, extending the promenade to North Wollongong Beach.

Project manager Lance Hazell said the main features included the new 3m-wide pavement, improved lighting, seating, new plants and the timber viewing platform.
"One of the really nice things is that we have integrated four trees into the viewing platform," he said.
The installation of black balustrade fencing along the new length of the promenade was only completed in the past four days and Mr Hazell said it really topped off the project.
Council general manager David Farmer said yesterday's opening was an important day in the ongoing development of the Blue Mile.
"The great thing about our tourism assets is they also add to the liveability for residents," Mr Farmer said.
"Having something like the space on this viewing platform takes some pedestrians off the cycleway at the bottom of the hill and reduces the congestion.
"The creation of this area provides a better experience all round."
He noted there had been significant progress on the Blue Mile during the past year.
"This time last year we were taking the fence down at Brighton Lawn and in just 12 months we have completed major upgrades along Flagstaff Hill, Belmore Basin and Cliff Rd."
Cunningham MP Sharon Bird said the promenade would become a well-utilised scenic walk.
"First we had our Grand Pacific Drive and now we have a grand walk. It is just tremendous," Ms Bird said.
"I would like to extend my appreciation to the contractors who have done a terrific job."
