An amazing $120,000 has so far been raised as part of an appeal for injured Kiama surfer Darren Longbottom.
This includes almost $90,000 counted so far from a benefit night on Thursday, together with $31,000 from raffle ticket sales.
Benefit night organiser Steve Conti and his band of helpers were hoping the community would dig deep in support of 36-year-old Mr Longbottom, his wife Aimee and daughter Bowie, and they were blown away by the result.
"We have been so overwhelmed, the generosity has been unbelievable," Mr Conti said.
Australia's reigning world surfing champion Mick Fanning was a surprise guest at the event.
Mr and Mrs Longbottom thanked the community for their support via video.
"The support has been absolutely amazing, everyone is keeping us strong and keeping us going," Mr Longbottom said.
Big-ticket items auctioned on the night included a surf trip to the Mentawai Islands for $9000; brother Dylan Longbottom's signed tow board and print ($5700); Fanning's signed board and print ($5500); Bali family holiday ($4800); Robbie Maddison's riding leathers from his world record motorcyle jump in Las Vegas ($4700); and a Joel Parkinson surfboard signed by the world's top 10 surfers ($3450).
Mr Longbottom broke his neck while on a surfing holiday in Indonesia in May and is now in the spinal unit of Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, awaiting transfer to Moorong Spinal Unit at Ryde.
