An Illawarra surgeon is being sued for damages by a former patient who he sexually assaulted.
Dr Arthur Bosanquet, who is awaiting sentence on a charge of inciting a person 16 years and over to commit an act of indecency in May 2007, is being sued by the victim for pain and suffering caused by the doctor's actions.
Barrister Steve Longhurst, who is representing the victim in the civil suit, told Wollongong District Court yesterday the case involved the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a sexual assault to which he had pleaded guilty.
Mr Longhurst sought orders to assess the doctor's financial situation and freeze his assets. "We are asking for him to attend court to give evidence on what assets he has got," Mr Longhurst told Judge Norman Delaney.
The matter was for mention only with no appearance by Dr Bosanquet and has been adjourned to November 25.
Outside the court, Mr Longhurst said his client would be seeking financial compensation for harm inflicted by the doctor's actions.
Dr Bosanquet, 54, from Jamberoo, first appeared in Wollongong Local Court in November last year in relation to the charge.
The doctor has since been charged with similar offences relating to two other patients in cases which are ongoing.
Dr Bosanquet has been suspended by the Dental Board of NSW.
