An Albion Park teenager with suspected neck, back and head injuries had to be rescued from dense bushland near Macquarie Pass after falling down a cliff yesterday morning.
Karina Pietrobelli, 13, was flown to Wollongong Hospital after being winched to safety by Police Rescue officers and paramedics.
She had been walking along a popular track with her mother when the ground suddenly gave way, plunging her onto the rocky creek bank below.
SLIDESHOW: Girl injured in Macquarie Pass fall"The side gave way, she just fell 4m or 5m," mother Narelle Pietrobelli said."She didn't say much for a while.
"She dislocated her knee and her head was really sore, she kept dropping in and out of consciousness."
Ms Pietrobelli said she and her daughter had intended to enjoy a day of bushwalking "to spend some time together".
They had set off about 9.45am and had walked almost 2km when the accident happened.
Ms Pietrobelli managed to drag her daughter away from the creek before she telephoned a friend, who is an off-duty ambulance officer, for help.
Police Rescue, NSW Ambulance and Lake Illawarra police were involved in the rescue, made difficult by the terrain.
Despite being heavily sedated, Karina complained of back pain as she was lifted back up the cliff.
The Ambulance Service Rescue Helicopter was called from Sydney to transfer Karina to hospital, where she was in a stable condition last night.
