Three dead after fiery car crash in Unanderra

19 Sep, 2008 11:54 PM
Three people are dead and one person is in a critical condition after a car lost control and hit an electricity pole before landing on a gas main and bursting into flames in Unanderra tonight.

The identities of the four people are not known at this stage.

Lake Illawarra police chief inspector Danny Sharkey said the car was travelling south along the Princes Hwy when it lost control near Orangegrove Avenue about 7.15pm.

The section of highway was expected to be closed for about eight hours as crash unit investigators worked to determine the cause of the accident.

Many homes in Unanderra and Farmborough Heights are without electricity following the accident.
