Tiger cubs to set up home at Symbio

The Helensburgh Tigers rugby league team will have some live, big cat mascots when two Sumatran tiger cubs move into Symbio Wildlife Park in August next year.One-year-olds Cinta and Jalur will leave Auckland Zoo to take up residency in a 900sqm purpose-built $500,000 enclosure at the Helensburgh park.The sister and brother cubs will play a vital role in a worldwide breeding program to boost numbers of the critically endangered animal, run by the Australasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria."Thirty years ago there was three species of tiger in Indonesia and today they are down to just one species of which there are fewer than 230 animals in the wild," Symbio Wildlife Park owner John Radnidge said."So we will join in with a worldwide program to ensure their survival, regretfully in captivity, because they will become extinct in the wild. "There is absolutely no question that will happen ..."
