Tired Demelza celebrates Top Model title

03 Jul, 2008 05:00 AM
The Illawarra's latest export and Australia's Next Top Model Demelza Reveley spent yesterday doing countless media interviews in Sydney but said she wished she was at home in bed in Wollongong.

"I am so tired, I just want to go home and sleep," Demelza said.

"I have been doing breakfast radio all morning ... then we did some other interviews so it has been really busy (and) I have had only four hours' sleep."

On Tuesday night, The Illawarra Grammar School Year 11 student won the Australia's Next Top Model title at a live pay TV broadcast from Sydney's Luna Park.

The six judges' votes were split between Demelza and Sydney's Alexandra Girdwood, 21, but the 16-year-old Keiraville beauty won the people's vote.

As a result, she received a host of prizes and opportunities that could pave the way for an international modelling career.

Demelza said she spoke to Ms Girdwood at the show's after party and she was "really great" about finishing runner-up.

"We were both really happy regardless of what the outcome was, I mean we were both so proud that we made it this far," Demelza said.

"And whoever won, we both decided that it was down to fate and it was their time, so we were both supportive of each other."

Nevertheless, Demelza was relieved not to miss out on the top gong.

"I am really glad that I wasn't in that position because I don't know how I would have handled it," she said.

"I think I would have been okay, like I would have understood, but I think would have been a little bit of a mess, I would have been really upset."

Demelza will flop in the real industry. Best wishes Alex, Leiden and Alamela!

Yes let's all celebrate bullies! It will be interesting to see how she will cope in the big wide world of modelling, where she isn't the Queen Bee!

It seems to me our top model would have to be the most confident, outgoing victim of bullying in history. Claiming to have been bullied at St Mary Star of the Sea College and having to leave the school as a result of it.

Well, what a turnaround for this young lady. One minute a victim and then the culprit? Amazing. It seems to me this young lady would say and do just about anything to achieve her goals.

Demelza is beautiful. Alex had horrid pictures throughout the series and I wondered why they kept her there. I will go and buy anything Demelza promotes as long as her picture is on it.

I find it amusing how people are so shocked that someone who says they were once bullied then turned into a bully themselves. Doesn't anyone realise how common this situation is? Same as people who are abused when children often go on to abuse others ... it's a sad, sad cycle, but I think people need to give Demelza a break. Yes the bullying incident was horrible and it disgusted me - however, I find it interesting that no one is placing fault on anyone else, despite the fact that everyone except Belle sat back and said nothing? That makes them just as bad as Demelza, if you ask me. And at the end of the day, can people please realise that she is a 16-year-old girl, still figuring life out, and obviously capable of changing her ways? To write her off as a bully and that's it, is ridiculous. She performed the best in the competition - hence she's the winner. It's as simple as that. All the best Demelza!

Apparently she is being called the worst winner ever. Thank goodness. What a horrible example for teenage girls everywhere. Goodbye top model.

I think all you people bagging out Demelza forget what you were like in high school because when I was there 75 per cent of them were horrible stuck up bullies and I wouldn't be surprised if you guys were one of them. So I think you should give her a break and let her get on with her new career.

PS your comments prove you're not so nice yourself.
