An elderly man and woman were critically injured in a car crash on the Princes Hwy at Gerringong this morning.
The accident occurred just before 9am, about 500m north of the highway's intersection with Sims Rd.
Inspector Brian Pedersen said a white van was heading north on the highway when it collided with a trailer attached to a vehicle heading south.
UPDATE: Woman killed in Princes Hwy crash "There were two people trapped in the van as a result of the collision," Insp Pedersen said.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said a man and a woman, in their 70s, were both taken to Wollongong Hospital in critical condition.
A rescue helicopter transported one patient to hospital, while the second was taken by road ambulance.

The Princes Hwy has been closed, and is expected to remain so until at least 1pm.
The Roads and Traffic Authority said northbound traffic was being diverted into Belinda St, and southbound traffic was being diverted into Fern St.
Northbound heavy vehicles over 10 tonnes are being diverted via Cambewarra Mountain and Macquarie Pass.
Southbound heavy vehicles over 10 tonnes are being diverted via Hume Highway and Picton Road.
