Two trapped in Princes Hwy crash at Gerringong

A two-car collision has left two people trapped in their cars at Gerringong with significant injuries.

Paramedics, a helicopter, fire brigade rescue and police are at the crash scene, near Sims Rd, following the accident about 9am.

The Princes Hwy has been closed while a rescue helicopter lands. It is expected to remain closed for about three hours.

    The drivers of the cars are believed to have significant injuries but can not be properly assessed until they are freed from their cars.

    The Roads and Traffic Authority said northbound traffic was being diverted into Belinda St, and southbound traffic was being diverted into Fern St.

    Northbound heavy vehicles over 10 tonnes are being diverted via Cambewarra Mountain and Macquarie Pass.

    Southbound heavy vehicles over 10 tonnes are being diverted via Hume Highway and Picton Road.
