Viva La Gong flies the kite for diversity

13/10/2008 3:00:00 AM
There was something for everyone at this year's Viva la Gong event which wrapped up last night after three huge days of entertainment.

Yesterday's performances included the BlueScope Steel Youth Orchestra presenting Hans Christian Andersen's famous story, The Wild Swans.

It was a day to showcase multicultural talent with a range of diverse performances throughout the afternoon including Zorba's Kefi Band, Wadi Wadi Mixed Tribe and Monsieur Camembert.

Crown St Mall came alive on Saturday with aerial performances and crazy characters wandering the streets.

Dancers, musicians, actors and host of other performers kept visitors entertained throughout the day with live entertainment.

Viva la Gong is organised by Wollongong City Council and cultural services co-ordinator Lisa Nolan said it was designed to cater for the whole family.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for families to appreciate the people and culture that makes up Wollongong," she said.

Maybe they should have liased with City Rail so they did not have planned trackwork on the weekend meaning buses were only available into town. With a 2hr interval im not suprised there was not very many people there on Saturday.
