The Wiggles may be arriving in their big red car when they perform at WIN Entertainment Centre later this year, but they are encouraging their fans to use the big green bus.
The all-singing, all-dancing, all-skivvied quartet, announced the dates of their national Big Big Show yesterday, with the WIN Entertainment Centre scheduled for December 11.
"The Wiggles encourage everyone to take public transport to the show," organisers said yesterday.
They possibly had last December's Wollongong show in mind, when Wollongong City Council rangers fined scores of Wiggles patrons who had parked illegally on the grass near WIN Entertainment Centre.
The fines outraged Illawarra residents as well as visitors to the area, with one fan from Mudgee saying: "We'll never come back here again. It's ridiculous."
In the wake of the debacle the council - in consultation with WIN Entertainment Centre management - said they would develop a new parking strategy to accommodate concert-goers during the day.
But yesterday, when asked by the Mercury at what stage the plan was at, a spokeswoman said council was "reviewing options for parking strategies when major events at the centre are held during business hours.
"Council will meet with event organisers again in the coming months to discuss appropriate strategies to ensure safety and convenient access at major events."
The Big Big Show is inspired by the circus and will feature acrobats, gymnasts, dancers, trapeze artists and a ringmaster.
Tickets for The Wiggles Big Big Show cost $30 and go on sale though Ticketek on August 3.
