Winds further damage grandstand roof, roads closed

11 Jan, 2012 06:18 PM
Police and the State Emergency Service have cordoned off WIN Stadium as strong winds cause further damage to the western grandstand roof.

Roads have been closed at three points as parts of the roof were flapping in the gusty wind.

On Monday, the NSW Government released redesign plans for the new roof which show a slightly more rectangular configuration in contrast to the almost parabolic ends which characterised the original design. It was these ends that failed in strong but not unseasonal winds last September.

Solution...... Take the roof down. Play games at Win Stadium from March with no roof. Engineers do your job for 8 months and then do it right in September. Everybody wins! It aint rocket science guys!

Maybe Chris Christodoulou and the other members of the IVA can stand under it and hold it up.

I think someone should file a missing persons report on the Member for Wollongong, she's been unusually absent from all of this....strange it was her 'baby' after all?

I agree with John - Take the roof down. Simple as that.

It has happened before where the roof has been unstable due to wind and such, and now it is happening again. The roof (and the whole situation regarding it) is clearly more of a problem to the town than anything else.

Last time I checked, most people weren't too afraid to get wet. Rainy weather brings people together in events anyway. It's always fun when it rains and everyone is there to just enjoy a game of footy or whatever.

The roof wasn't really needed in the first place. Just remove it.

Bring back the hill! - with lots of grass, and let people bring their blankets, sit and enjoy the game like the "olden days"

None of this hooha roof rubbish.

Stop wasting the money and make entrance tickets cheaper for families to come and enjoy the games.

Maybe the member for WOLLONGONG would be better off just staying out of it.
