Angus Glover epitomises every Illawarra junior basketballer desperate to see the Wollongong Hawks survive.
The Wollongong youngster lives and breathes basketball, earning several gigs as a floor wiper at homes games and attending countless Hawks coaching camps.
"My dream is to grow up and to play for the Hawks. It's been my dream since I was two," Angus said.
Now Angus is just praying the Hawks raise enough money to keep the club alive and playing in next season's restructured national competition.
Earlier this week Angus and his mother, Mandy, won a signed Hawks jersey through an online competition (www.savethehawks.com) on the official rescue bid website.
The pair pledged their support and got several of their friends to follow suit.
Almost 70 people entered the website's Spread the Word competition.
Mandy has been following the Hawks since their inception 30 years ago and has already pledged her support by ordering season tickets for herself and Angus.
She said she would do everything in her power to help support the team and make sure the Hawks' survival plan is successful.
"Angus loves the jersey," Mandy said.
"I've been a supporter since 1978 and I can't bear to think not having the Wollongong Hawks to support.
"Angus and I will love to continue with our season memberships. Angus' dream since he was able to speak has always been to play for the Hawks one day. Fingers crossed he still can."
Yesterday, Save the Hawks spearhead Mat Campbell continued to encourage the community to get behind the club's fight for survival.
"Despite the fact we still haven't heard from the NBL since submitting our Expression of Interest, things are moving along quite well, but we still need more pledges of support on the website," Campbell said.
"We want Wollongong to continue to have a basketball team and we need the community's full support.
"I'm sure we can make it with their help."
