22 Jan, 2010 10:39 PM
The Wollongong Hawks stumbled to a confidence shattering National Basketball League loss at the hands of the Townsville Crocodiles in Townsville tonight.

Two days after beating the Crocs on their own court, the hapless Hawks handed Townsville a 73-59 victory.

In a mistake-riddled performance Wollongong had 28 turnovers and in the third quarter Hawks could manage to score only 6 points.

The worst culprits were Cameron Traghard and Glen Saville with six turnovers each and Tim Coenraad with five.

MVP candidate Corey Williams topped the scoring for the Crocs with 25 points and Stephen Hoare chipped in with 13.

The Hawks' scoring was lead by Traghard 10. No other player could manage to hit double figures - centre Larry Davidson was the next best scorer with 8.

At half time the Hawks were behind 38-40. Williams had 13 points for the Crocs, but the story of the first half was the turnovers.

The Hawks had turned the ball over 17 times while the Crocs had given it back only eight times.

At the first break the Hawks had a slender one-point lead (16-15) after getting away to a good start and leading 13-4 after six minutes.

But the Hawks lost the lead with the first possession of the second quarter and only regained it briefly once before half time.

The Hawks (13-11) still sit in fourth spot on the NBL ladder with Townsville (13-10) sitting just ahead of them.
